Description

Typical World War II diver with Swedish text on dial and back cover. ASU stands for AB Svenska Urdepoten. This company (established in Malmö 1923) imported several Swiss brands including Helvetia, and also labelled some for the Swedish market. The special features of this watch are exciting though. The high quality 15 jewel movement is adjusted (“Kontrolljusterad”) and is has a very early Incabloc shock absorber- note also the gold bushings around the 3 visible jewels on the bridge. The movement runs, but it has not been serviced. (If a service is required the price will increase by ca NOK 4000). The steel casing is very thick and has the charming notation: “Pansarboett Stål” which means armoured plate steel! During WWII the Swedes and Swiss had in common the special status of being sovereign states. (You might have heard of Omega Suverän – “sovereign”)? And of course, the Swedish steel industry provided the Swiss watch industry with the metal it needed, making it natural for the two countries to exchange other goods like watches. The black dial with the sub second is good, and the full radium lume arabic numbers glows strongly green under fluorescent light. The very “military plain” case has modest diameter 29,5 mm, lug tip to lug tip it measures 37 and thickness with the domed crystal is 11 mm.
