Description

Marketed to (sailboat) sailors, the term “Watersport” on both the dial and back cover makes the mandatory “Waterproof” unececessary. The 34mm stainless steel case, 8,5mm thick (slim!), has beautiful simple design, featuring a no date, perfect silvered dial, having only 4 prominent baton gold applied hour markers at 3,6,9 and 12. All lumedots are present, with the hour and minute hands also complete with the same lume material (the seconds hand is super thin, by the way, underscoring the elegance of this watch design). As can be seen from the photos, the movement is signed Cyma and Tavannes, showing the “Cymaflex” shock protection patent. The caliber is R486, and the serial number is 265414. A fun detail, making this movement special is that it states “18 jewels”, while the reference (bidfun-db) states that R486 usually has 17 jewels (as most better watches had at the time). The case reference is 2-2351-6/391. Usually you will find watchmakers notes inscribed by a sharp pointed tool inside vintage watches. This Cyma has none (we haven’t found any, we may be wrong…), also indicating that the watch has been sparingly used during its life. It is easily wound and runs very well. We date this original and quite rare watch to be produced between 1955 and 1960.
