Such a nice, all stainless steel Kontiki rarely comes round. Eterna inscribed the 5 Eterna-Matic balls in the crystal – just as Omega, Universal Geneve, Movado and Roamer amongst others. You have to look very closely, to spot their logo in the centre (engraved on the inside). (The reason for this logo comes from the fact that Eterna used a roller ball bearing to support the rotating weight used in the automatic to wind the watch). The yellow gold Kontiki logo on the back (an artist impression of the Thor Heyerdahl expedition raft) is well kept. Notice the Eterna logo with the five balls in the sail! The dial has applied white gold hour markers which are all intact, as are all the lume dots. How Eterna came to use the Kontiki name is a secret Thor Heyerdahl seemingly never communicated, but is has been in use (and still is) from the nineteen fifties. The 37 x 44, mm case has many marks from extensive use, but is unpolished and sharp. This Eterna is a vintage from, in our opinion the very best time in the history of mechanical Swiss watches. The magazine ad is from 1967.
