Description
More antique than vintage
Converted from a small pocket watch
Omega inside, silver outside
From ca 1910, this is a pocket watch that has been converted to wrist use. After the first world war wristwatches became increasingly popular, and many silver cased watches got the fixed “lugs” soldered on. It is now a “drivers” 90 degree wristwatch at that (note the Chronostop Genève version from 1968)! We have had the 110 years old movement fully serviced, and it runs briskly and accurately. More of a conversation piece than an everyday beater, we have included this watch in our selection because it is a usable, fun historic item from the time Oslo was called Kristiania (Norway’s capital got the name Oslo from 1924). The signature Fr. Johansen depicts a firm that has excisted i Oslo until recent years (not traceable as a running company now, any information out there information would be welcome!). The original silver (0.900) Omega case of 36mm diameter also has the name “D. Ihle” engraved inside. It will fit a wrist up to ca 18cm.
