Boliden gold?
Why? Rolex used the following phrase in most of its vintage period advertising: “Its classic shape is carved out of a solid block of hardened Swedish stainless steel or gold”. Does that mean Swedish gold as well as steel? If gold was sourced in Sweden, Boliden mines in the north of that country would have been the likely supplier. We like to speculate that is the case here too. As can be seen from the photos, the engraving on the back of the monocoque (“solid block”) Certina offered here says: “Från Boliden Aktiebolag”. The automatic, caliber 25-651 moment runs fine, the dial, applied indexes and hands are mint, so with the story on the back, this watch is a perfect conversation starter in any dressed up circumstance. The gold case is 34 x 40 mm. Thickness is 10.3. The gold content will very nearly equal the price of this very nice vintage from ca 1970.
