Mido produced some very collectable vintage watches. The Ocean Star range being topped by the so called “Rainbow Diver”. We had one of those (with the original. bonclip Gay Freres dated bracelet from 1959), and that very rare model is one of the most expensive watches we have sold. The slim, monocoque stainless steel case and the automatic movement is the same in the vintage Mido offered here. It dates from the early sixties, has a super, black and white “rail track” tension ring for the minutes and seconds and one of the most simple dials in a rare grey coloring. The white gold applied indexes mark the quarters at 6, 9 and 12 only. The large date aperture and the Mido signed crown tops the original expression, unique to this brand. The original signed crown is there together with the microscopic name engraved crystal. Mido is the only brand we know of that signs their crystals with the full name: “Mido” . Dimensions are: diameter 37.8, height 39 and thickness 10.2 mm.
