The “Blue Ribbon” series of watches reflects the focus on the Atlantic passenger steamers competing to reach the other continent in the shortest number of days and hours (also known as “Blue Riband”). Sailing back and forward between Britain and the United States, the cruise liners still travelled full steam where this watch was made. SS United States was the last ship to take the prize in 1952, averaging 35.59 knots. Quoting Wikipedia we give you an example of a famous ship built in the beginning of the sixties: “France was the French Line flagship from 1961 to 1974, combining regular five days/nights transatlantic crossings with occasional winter cruises, as well as two world circumnavigations. During her last years, to save fuel costs, crossings took six days/nights”.
This all steel automatic has the famous 27 jewel 25-651 movement (“25” stands for 25mm diameter). The watch is fully serviced (Sept 2020) and carries a 12 months watchmaker warranty. The condition is good (8 out of 10 – some scratches on the case and lume missing from the hour hand) Here you find the super classic, most sought after combination of materials: White gold applied indexes with black onyx inserts, and a curved dial giving beautiful reflections of light from the silver dial. The case diameter is 34,3mm and we date it to ca 1965.
