Square compressor cased watch
Beautiful grey-blue dial
Rare vintage in very good condition!
Other makers like the Zenith (Respirator) and the Heuer (Monaco) used these “EPSA” (E. Piquerez SA) cases, ref. Chronopedia: Both the Compressor and Compressor 2 types have snap on case backs. Compressor 2 types use a shaped case (i.e. square, cushion or tonneau), not round. Compressor and Compressor 2 watches while water resistant, are commonly seen in “fashion” watch styles, and while designed to be water resistant are not dive watches. The elegant square case and the grayish/blue super dial makes us think that Roamer used the same dial manufacturer as Heuer for this watch. It certainly has much of the same colouring as the Chronomatic Carrera we sold last year at Bonhams, London. Since this Roamer Red Sea appears to be produced in 1967, this shape and properties may even have given Heuer some inspiration in their case and dial preferences for the new automatic chronographs they introduced in 1969! The dial has Promethium lume (as most Roamers from the sixties have), therefore no “T”, but SWISS MADE “PM” under the 6th hour marker. The minute and hour hands have intact lume, but with some discolouration on the shorter hand. The applied Roamer logo and hour markers are in great condition. The stainless steel case has only light wear. The crown may be the original, but we can not be sure of that since there is no visible logo. 30,3 x 32 x 9,8 mm are the dimensions of the square case, and lug to lug end is 39,1 mm. Reference number on the back is 474 9121 601. The automatic 23 jewel movement signed Roamer (caliber MST 473) has been fully serviced and is guaranteed for 12 months.
